BOAT EXCURSION THROUGH THE COVES OF THE RESERVE
Cala Tonnarella, Cala dell’Uzzo, Cala Marinella
Exploring the Zingaro Reserve by boat offers an exhilarating perspective of the coastline and the reserve itself. Often, a boat is the sole means to uncover hidden caves and untamed coves, allowing for an immersive experience in both the stunning views and the crystal-clear waters.
Cala Tonnarella is deemed the jewel of the reserve, accessible via a 700-meter trail from the north entrance near San Vito lo Capo. It is also the site of the Museum of Maritime Activities, showcasing artifacts related to the area's traditional fishing practices.
Further along the trail towards Scopello lies Cala dell'Uzzo, about 2 kilometers from the north entrance. Named after the ancient Uzzo cave, it offers a striking panorama with its white pebbles set against the emerald sea, and close by stands the Museum of Peasant Civilization.
Cala Marinella, situated roughly 3.5 kilometers from the north entrance and nestled in the heart of the reserve, is a small and pristine haven, particularly favored by snorkeling enthusiasts.
TREKKING TRAILS IN THE RESERVE
Trekking through the Mediterranean maquis and along the sea, suitable for both amateurs and sports enthusiasts
The Zingaro Reserve offers more than just coves: its trail, which spans from the south to the north, is a segment of the Italy Path. This extensive network stretches over 7000 km, connecting Italian regions from the Alps and the Apennine ridge to the major islands. A walk in the Zingaro Reserve often features encounters with the beautiful dwarf palm, a plant typical of Mediterranean flora.
The coastal path is the easiest and caters to all visitors. Spanning approximately 7 km, it can be completed in 2 hours one way. With its low Mediterranean maquis, broom, almond, and carob trees, this trail provides access to the coves and is ideal for a leisurely stroll.
The mid-coast route offers a moderate challenge, taking about 4 hours to cover 8.5 km. It boasts picturesque views and, in spring, is adorned with stunning wild orchids.
The high path poses a significant challenge and is recommended for seasoned hikers. It features steep inclines amidst broom vegetation, extends for 17 km, and takes roughly 7 hours to traverse. Reaching heights of 914 meters above sea level, it rewards trekkers with spectacular panoramic views and vistas of the sea.
